Divorce Was Not Going to be Easy May 13, 2025

Separating and getting a divorce after being with my spouse for multiple decades seemed unimaginable. I didn’t know where to start. A good friend told me she knew a good attorney in Charlotte, Erika Angles, if I ever needed one. After the straw that broke the camel's back, I was done. I reached out and made an appointment with Erika Angles. Unfortunately, I had COVID, but I was determined to have that appointment, so I did it via conference call. Erika was extremely open and honest and said it was going to be hard but not impossible. It was a high-stakes divorce with lots of assets—businesses, multiple houses, rental properties, and our retirement portfolio. Erika explained the process at a high level. I knew divorcing him was not going to be easy, and I knew I had to have a plan. To quote Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., 'You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.' Erika told me that the first step is to get him out of the house. I did that, and Erika was with me every step of the way. Due to the complexity of my case, Eric Meredith got involved. I’m not gonna lie, there were LOTS of twists and turns along the way, but it was worth it. I learned to 'trust the process.' I knew that Eric and Erika had my back and my best interests in mind. I went through mediation. Eric and Erika were very honest that it was gonna be tough. They were compassionate and guided me through everything. They asked me to have a number in mind I would be happy with. I did, and my team negotiated a great settlement for me WITHOUT going to court.
