Divorce Was Not Going to be Easy
Separating and getting a divorce after being with my spouse for multiple decades seemed unimaginable. I didn’t know where to start. A good friend told me she knew a good attorney in Charlotte, Erika Angles, if I ever needed one. After the straw that broke the camel's back, I was done. I reached out and made an appointment with Erika Angles. Unfortunately, I had COVID, but I was determined to have that appointment, so I did it via conference call. Erika was extremely open and honest and said it was going to be hard but not impossible. It was a high-stakes divorce with lots of assets—businesses, multiple houses, rental properties, and our retirement portfolio. Erika explained the process at a high level. I knew divorcing him was not going to be easy, and I knew I had to have a plan. To quote Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., 'You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.'
