In late May of 2022, Jetton & Meredith, PLLC, was retained by a man who was severely injured as a result of an auto accident that occurred on May 19, 2022. This accident took place on a landfill in Cabarrus County, North Carolina where our client was employed full-time as a heavy machinery operator.
In an early afternoon on May 19, 2022, our client was servicing and reconditioning his bulldozer (which he utilized daily for his profession as a heavy machinery operator). While attempting the service, a commercial dump truck entered the landfill. As the commercial dump truck began backing, it violently struck the bulldozer, and despite the initial impact, the truck continued to back. Ultimately this dropped our client between the truck and the bulldozer, consequently, pinning and pulverizing our client.
The client sustained immediate and life-threatening injuries, which include, but are not limited to, right leg injury resulting in right above-knee amputation, traumatic hemorrhage shock, left femur fracture, fracture of the shaft of the femur, laceration of the right popliteal artery, laceration of the right femoral artery and lower limb ischemia. The client was air-lifted to CMC Main in critical condition. Upon arrival at the emergency room, immediate trauma treatment was rendered to the client, where his future remained uncertain.
Days later, and once stable, the client was delivered unfathomable news regarding his injuries and was required to come to terms with the fact that his life was forever changed. What started off as an ordinary day at work had turned into the most catastrophic and life-altering day that our client would have to accept.
With an unpredictable tomorrow and an unclear horizon, the client retained Jetton & Meredith, PLLC to assist with the legalities post-accident. The personal injury team at Jetton &Meredith, PLLC is comprised of Founder and Attorney Mark Jetton, Jr. and North Carolina State Certified Paralegal, Chera Lynne Pardue, both of whom began immediate work on the matter. Mark and Chera’s initial work included placing all parties on notification of representation, obtaining copies of all accident reports and incident reports, preserving evidence, establishing accident facts, securing photographs, audio recordings and videos, ordering and reviewing medical records/reports, collecting physical evidence, interviewing witnesses and vehicle and accident site inspections. Then as the case continued, the two of them worked collaboratively on accounting for all economic damages (medical bills, prescription costs, prosthetic costs, home modifications, loss of earnings, etc.) and non-economic damages (pain and suffering, scarring and disfigurement, loss of enjoyment of life, emotional distress, etc.).
They were also quick to retain an accident reconstruction expert, an economic expert and a life-care expert (additional experts were later retained that included a human-factors expert and an occupational and environmental expert).
The other parties involved spent several years refusing to accept responsibility for the accident continuously arguing that the client failed to keep a proper lookout and contributed to his own injuries. Therefore, denying any compensation.
Despite years of supportive documentation and data exchanges amongst the parties, and negotiation attempts, the parties remained at an impasse and the matter remained unresolved. In February of 2025, Jetton & Meredith, PLLC initiated a lawsuit for their client.
Mark and Chera continued to work tirelessly for their client bond and obligated at this point to ongoing litigation including, complex discovery requests and review, analyzation of extensive evidence collected in discovery, subjected to countless extensive and timely depositions of the parties involved, the retained experts, the medical experts and an all-day mediation (resulting in an impasse in early 2026).
This matter was set for trial in May of 2026.
Merely four years after the accident, and merely one week before the trial was set to begin, Jetton & Meredith, PLLC successfully negotiated and secured recovery in the amount of:
$7 MILLION DOLLARS.
